10 Tips from Artist and Designer
Taking on a design project yourself can be a daunting task. What colors should you pick? Does that rug really work in the space? These are the types of questions every DIYer faces. To help you on your design journey, here are ten tips to help you create your own fabulous space that's filled with great design.
Incorporating color into a room doesn't always necessarily mean paint. Accessorize with pillows, art, and other accessories and you'll have yourself a pulled-together room you will be proud to show off.
2. Bold Patterns:
Bold patterns made modern are a great way to make a bold statement. Use all different types of stripes and angular designs in daring colors like black, white, indigo and gold.
3. Art Collections:
Have a cool collection? Display it in a concentrated area on a wall instead of all over the room.
4. Measure First:
One of the biggest mistakes people make in their home design is going to a furniture store and just picking out furniture without properly measuring. Measuring and laying out the room in advance can save you a lot of headaches.
6. Be Adventurous:
When designing, I find it necessary to get out of my comfort zone. If you play it safe your space might suffer. Feel free to be bold and really communicate your style.
7. Less Is More:
You don't need to stuff everything you own into a room to give it personality. Just use a few interesting pieces of furniture and decor.
You can add height to a room by painting the ceiling a contrasting color. It works!
9. Color Coordinate:
Using the Color Theory and the Color Wheel is a great way to help you figure out what works well together. For dramatic and striking color combos, use colors opposite each other on the wheel. If you want a more subtle look, choose colors that are directly next to each other; analogous colors like red and orange or orange and yellow.
