5 Back-To-School Clothes
Shopping Tips

Girl choosing clothes for school

One of the necessary evils of the beginning of the school year is towing your children through the mall for new clothing. You'll be glad to know this doesn't have to be a stressful process and can even be done without bringing along the little ones. Here are 5 tips for back-to-school shopping that will make your life easier.

Weed Out Old Or Rarely Worn Clothing

Put aside some time for you and your children to go through their wardrobe. When looking through their dressers, toss the items that have holes or stains and donate the clothing that is too small. Start the process of going through their closets a few months earlier by hanging their shirts up backwards. Any tops that aren't facing forward by the time you go shopping should be donated.

Make A List

Grab some stationery and jot down a game plan. Writing down how much and what type of clothing to get for each child is a fantastic way to streamline the process. Sit down with them and ask if there's anything specific they want and make note of it for when you're shopping. Having a list and sticking to it while you're out and about will help you save money and time.

Be Aware Of The School's Dress Code

Before you start buying clothes, make sure you know what the school's policies are when it comes to the students' closets. It's obvious that most schools ban revealing clothing, like short shorts and skirts, as well as anything that shows undergarments. Items with crude language and/or graphic images are also sure to be frowned upon. Some schools also take issue with pants hanging down, hats, and certain cuts of tank tops and dresses.

Don't Buy Everything Before The First Day

Give them a chance to see what their peers are wearing. Stock up on basic T-shirts, jeans, socks, and other basic items. Then, once they've completed a couple weeks, they'll let you know what the other kids are wearing and you can take a shopping trip for similar (not necessarily the same, especially if they're brand names) styles. This does a great deal for your child's self-esteem. If you buy everything beforehand and send them to school in something like a Thanksgiving outfit, they won't fit in very well.

Shop Online

Avoid leaving home altogether by taking advantage of popular retail sites. It's faster and easier to find exactly what you're looking for.

Back to school shopping can be a stressful experience for parents everywhere. Fortunately, The Lakeside Collection has you and your family covered for the upcoming school year.
