Activities To Do With Your Baby During The Holidays
Christmas is for kids, right? It's lots of fun to take your kids shopping for gifts, picking out the Christmas tree, or caroling at the seniors' home, but what about the baby, who's too young for most of these activities? Here are some ideas for fun activities to do with your baby.
Capture The Cute Moments
Be on the lookout for photo ops. Keep your cell phone handy to shoot a picture of baby's holiday firsts. Capture her reaction to seeing the family tree for the first time. Get a shot of him looking at the decorations out in the yard. Be sure to schedule a time to have a professional portrait done. Splurge and buy one of those adorable hoodie outfits that imitate Santa's suit, his elves' suits, or even his reindeer. The finished portrait can be mounted in a frame to be treasured forever.
Party With Santa
Get together with other families who have babies and plan a party with Santa as the guest of honor. One of the dads can wear the Santa costume. All the little ones will have fun "playing" together and meeting Santa in a low-key environment. It would make a great photo op and could be the beginning of a holiday tradition.
Delight In The Music Of The Season
Even the tiniest babies will enjoy the colorful lights, decorations and music at a Christmas concert. They're never too young to be introduced to the traditional carols and songs of the season. You might even find them "singing" along. However, you should be prepared to leave the auditorium if your baby gets fussy and starts to disturb others.
Introduce Your Baby To Christmas Scents
The magic of Christmas extends to those wonderful scents we associate with the holiday for the rest of our lives. Give your baby a bit of evergreen to smell the pine scent. Let her or him experience the smells of peppermint, gingerbread, and cinnamon.
Introduce Your Baby To The Magic Of Books
Take a trip to your public library and check out a tote bag full of Christmas-themed picture books. The library is probably well stocked with books about Santa, the Nativity, the twelve days of Christmas and other holiday topics. Once home, get cozy in a rocking chair with your baby on your lap and go through the books together. Buy a copy of baby's favorite book to read again and again and make it the start of a holiday tradition.
Enjoy The Neighborhood Decorations
Take a tour of the neighborhood to view the colored lights, garden stakes, and animated figures on lawns and houses. It's amazing the effort that some people put into their annual holiday displays. If it's cold outside, travel by car. Have Daddy or a friend do the driving, while you sit beside your little one, pointing out and talking about what you see. If the weather is fine, bundle up baby and go for a walk.
