Christmas Jewelry Trends And Shopping Tips
Christmas isn't just the season of giving. It's the season of giving jewelry! There's no better time to surprise someone special in your life with a stylish pair of Swarovski earrings, a charm necklace or a shimmering birthstone locket. But shopping for jewelry can be tough if you don't know what you're looking for, aren't up-to-date on the top trends or unfamiliar with online shopping tricks. As a designer who's been featured on fashion authorities like the "Cosmo Hot List!" I pride myself on knowing what's in and what's out in the complicated jewelry scene. Let's take a look at some of the top trends this holiday season, as well as some useful shopping tips, winter jewelry advice and more in this Christmas jewelry showcase.
Top Jewelry Trends for 2016
Personally, I love seeing the wide range of jewelry getting some time in the spotlight right now. Everything from progressive, futuristic looks to throwback trends from the '80s and '90s. As a designer, I try to stay on course rather than get caught up in the ebb and flow of seasonal trends, but it's so fun to watch these trends change over time. Right now I'm seeing a lot of chokers, stackable rings, cuffs and bracelets over sleeves, as well as pearls and single earrings. There's also a demand for layered necklaces, personalized or monogram jewelry and wearable technology.
Wearing Jewelry In The Winter
One of the most important things to focus on while wearing jewelry in winter is loss prevention. When you're pulling on and removing so many extra layers throughout the day, it's not difficult to snag your jewelry on your other fashion accessories by accident. Bulky sweaters, scarves and ski hats have the ability to come into contact with delicate earrings and other jewelry at any time during your daily routine. Whenever you add or remove these layers, start making it a habit to double check that your earrings are still in place, especially during the busy holiday season!
Jewelry Shopping Advice
My general approach to holiday shopping involves staying organized by making lists and starting as early as I can. These days, it's so convenient to shop online. Not only does it allow you to avoid the crowds, but there are also so many great specials and shipping options available. However, jewelry can be a bit tricky, so it's best to stick with trusted brands and retailers. Also, make sure to double check the size and jewelry color you add to your cart before checkout. It's amazing how the slightest nuance can make a big difference in the look and fit of something as personal as jewelry.
Traveling With Jewelry
There's nothing worse than your favorite long statement necklace or Debra Shepard® Threader Earrings getting tangled when you're traveling during the holidays. I recommend an assortment of small plastic polybags and jewelry pouches. And if you're traveling with a lot of jewelry, there are some wonderful travel kit organizers that will allow you to keep everything clean, safe and satisfyingly untangled. As far as how to give jewelry during the holidays, you don't have to keep your jewelry in the traditional box. Think outside it with some of these jewelry wrapping ideas.
Debra Shepard started designing jewelry while attending the California College of Arts & Crafts in 1972, inventing the original threader earrings that paved the way for her signature EARSTRING® line of threader earrings. Today, she designs an eclectic mix of fashion-forward jewelry known for being comfortable and stylish, gaining her recognition in fashion press and media around the world.
