Five DIY Ideas For A Seaside Bedroom

Nothing is as peaceful and calming as a visit to the seashore. Walking along the beach, listening to the cries of seagulls and dipping your toes in the water will recharge your batteries in no time. The combination of sun, sand, and sea is almost magical. Everyone who's ever been to the beach would love to replicate that serene environment at home. Here are five DIY ideas for creating a seaside bedroom.

Choose The Right Colors

To bring the seashore into your bedroom, the most important element is color. Start by painting the walls white to create the illusion of limitless space. Then add various hues of sky and sea, such as turquoise blue, sea foam green, muted coral, and steel gray. Use these colors for the bedding, throw pillows, window treatments, rugs, artwork, and more.

Add Light

The seashore is flooded in sunlight. Try to recapture that look in your bedroom. It would be nice if you could add floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights, but that's probably not in the budget. Fake it by opening the curtains, replacing heavy draperies with light and airy sheers, and adding more lamps and lighting fixtures. The goal is to make the room as bright as possible.

Rethink The Furniture

Keep the light and airy effect going by getting rid of all the heavy furniture in the room. Move that upholstered chair to another room, and replace it with a wicker chair padded with pillows in your favorite beachy colors. Don't be afraid to bring outdoor furniture inside. A table with a see-through frame, intended for the patio, may be just what you need beside the bed. Swap a traditional headboard for one that's inspired by the seashore. You can also nail pieces of weathered wood directly onto the wall to create the illusion of a headboard. Or just stack a pile of pillows against the wall.

Decorate With Seashells

Every beachgoer has picked up some beautiful shells while walking along in the sand. There are many ways to put those shells to good use. You can hot glue a border of shells onto a photo frame for a unique display, wire them to a rattan wreath form for your door, or scatter them around a pillar candle on a candle plate. They also make eye-catching filler for a glass jar. The possibilities of decorating with shells are endless.

Accent With Organic Materials

Natural materials such as sea grass, bamboo, and driftwood create a rustic, decidedly seaside look. Consider hanging bamboo roll-up shades at the windows or laying bamboo mats on the floor. Add storage with sea grass baskets on floating shelves. Create a framework for a canopy over the bed using pieces of driftwood, or add a lamp with a driftwood base.

The Lakeside Collection offers hundreds of items to decorate your home in whatever style you like at value prices. You'll also find necessities for everyday use such as computer accessories, as well as seasonal specialties like Christmas stationery.
