New Baby: Games To Make Your Baby Shower Spectacular
Aside from the day the baby arrives, the most exciting part of pregnancy is the baby shower. It gives friends and family the chance to honor mom before all of her attention goes to a new little one. People come to give gifts, but they stay for the games, so you have to make sure they're fun! Board games are a good starters, but having a few interactive baby games really get the party started. Here are 5 games to make your baby shower spectacular.
Jumping The Shark
Hollywood folklore suggests a TV show is nearing the end when they introduce a baby to the cast. It's like when Fonzie "jumps the shark" in one of the later episodes of Happy Days that indicated it reached its peak and was on the decline. But babies are bright lights in our lives! So for this game, have guests list as many shows as possible in which a baby is introduced and the show stayed strong. The guest who names the most shows, wins. Guests get bonus points for including the baby's name.
For music lovers, this one is the best. Make a playlist of songs centered around the word "baby" or with the word "baby" in the title; there are a lot, so you might want to think about the ages of your guests and when the songs were popular to make sure they're familiar with your selections. You can play the game individually or in teams, but what you do is play a six-second snippet of the song and have the guests guess what song it is. The guest or team with the most correct songs, wins.
Mom is going to be seeing a lot of mashed up food for the next year or so. Our everyday food takes on curious forms and textures when it's made especially for babies -- items adults aren't familiar with! So for this game, pick out unusual jars of baby food, remove the labels, and hand each guest a baby spoon to taste. The person who guesses the most baby foods correctly, wins.
This one takes a little bit of planning, but it's the kind of planning that requires research from favorite celebrity magazines. Create a document with two columns. In one column, list as many celebrity babies you can. In the second column, list the celebrity parents out of order. Have your guests match the celebrity baby with the celebrity parents. The person who gets the most correct answers, wins.
Mama Measures Up
This is probably the only time a woman is OK with comments about how big she's gotten, and it's definitely a time worth marking. But how big is she? Have your guests try to guess how big mom's belly is (in inches) with the belly button as the marker. Everyone should write their guess down on a piece of paper and then use a measuring tape to accurately measure the size of her belly (from front to back). The guest with the closest guess, wins.
