Techniques To Help You Deal With Pesky Autumn Leaves

Autumn is considered by many to be the most beautiful season of the year. Mostly, the fascination with the fall season is all about the leaves. Green leaves become susceptible to a breakdown in chlorophyll, morphing into splendid shades of orange, red, brown and purple at different rates. When winter begins to take its first full breaths of life, it starts pulling the beautiful leaves down to your lawn, into your gutters and between the crevices of your car. The same leaves we gazed at a month earlier become a chore. Study these techniques to help you deal with pesky autumn leaves after your trees start shedding.

Mowing Matters

Homeowners become less and less concerned with mowing their lawn as the fall season speeds toward winter. Sometimes the mower is already stowed away when the leaves start to fall, making it easier to grab a rake instead of revving up your engine. Using your lawn mower to bag up your leaves is an efficient method, and keeps you mindful of mowing your lawn well into the fall instead of giving up early, which could also help your lawn stay healthier throughout the winter. Just make sure to attach a bag to catch the leaves, set the blades higher and save a few of the leaves for crafts to feature in your kids' artwork frame.

Gunky Gutters

If you're going to try mowing your lawn to get rid of your leaves, you'll want to get the job done before any heavy rainfall. The same rule applies to cleaning out your gutters. The last thing you want is to climb up on your ladder and find dense, sloppy layers of leaves. If you've still got that leaf blower out for your lawn maintenance, put it to use on your gutters too. Even wet, dense buildup can be cleared with a high-pressure hose or power washer. While you're up there, it's a good idea to check for blockages that could prevent gutters from channeling water efficiently.

Check Your Car

Leaf buildup can be trouble for cars in the driveway or parked under trees on the streets. Once leaves have settled on your car, an overnight downpour could lodge the slippery culprits in the cracks and crevices of your hood, under your windshield wipers, over tires and between brakes. If you don't check beforehand, you could get caught finding out that your brakes don't respond like they should or your wipers can't properly clear your windshield of rain. You shouldn't take chances when it comes to road safety. If you park outside, avoid trees and check for wet leaves.

Garbage Guidelines

Each city, village or neighborhood usually has specific rules when it comes to how residents can dispose of their autumn leaves. Some send around trucks to vacuum up piles and pick up larger yard bags. You could also displace your leaves into the wilderness if natural areas exist adjacent to your yard, but keep in mind that dumping leaves outside your property in large quantities is an easy way to pick up a fine in some municipalities. It's better to take the bag off the lawn mower and chop leaves into a fine coat over your yard. For finer results, use a mulching mower.

Autumn leaves can cause more problems than most people imagine. They can become a chore if you're not careful, and hazardous when not disposed of. Find some helpful tools to get your lawn in shape during the fall at The Lakeside Collection. We also have home decor to make that autumn weather more enjoyable, like decorative wine cork holders to keep track of good times.
