The History Of Threader Earrings
DEBRA SHEPARDŽ jewelry makes the transition from daytime to nighttime with ease, whether you're wearing jeans to the grocery store or an evening gown to the Oscars! To understand the versatility of DEBRA SHEPARDŽ jewelry, you only need to look back at the designer's legacy.
Debra was first inspired while she was a student at California College of Arts & Crafts in 1972. She believed it was possible to create light, comfortable earrings without post backings. "But I also wanted earrings that would inspire a sense of playfulness and fun," she said.
She threaded an earring post and chain through three piercings in her right ear. She was delighted with the results. Her earrings were so comfortable, they felt almost weightless. Debra realized she might be on to something.
When Debra became a professional art director, she tucked her jewelry designs away while she worked on other projects. It was her 12-year-old daughter Samantha who brought her back to her idea for better earrings. In 2002, the pair found the original threader earrings among Debra's jewelry. Samantha insisted on a demonstration, and Debra realized the idea still was a good one.
Debra began making and selling the earrings in her spare moments. Hollywood stars and stylists quickly discovered the carefree threader earrings, and almost overnight, they became a favorite of actresses, musicians, and other leading women of the world.
From that first pair of earrings, DEBRA SHEPARDŽ jewelry has grown to a complete line of eclectic pieces that combine classic style with comfort. Debra has been invited to design jewelry for events including Fashion Rocks, The Grammys, The MTV Movie Awards, Jingle Ball, and the Independent Spirit Film Awards to name only a few.
For Debra, the success of the company is a dream come true.
"What could possibly be better than to combine the daily routine of work with what I love to do?" Debra asked. "If you can find your passion in your work, then every day becomes a new adventure."
